Wild Beasts
Two Dancers
2009

Wild Beasts being of the modern, being of the renaissance, being baggy pantsed, being tight pantsed, being in a scene and being in a place.

So we bent our backs and leaned hard into our chores, like an old slugger working the ring, the furious fist of fate swung his swing and we took the lot - full on the sweet spot. myspace

Miss Ueki
Shake Shake
2009

‘Shake Shake’ isn’t one for the shakers, rather a dreamy pop EP from the German duo Miss Ueki.

Their debut is a 3 original song load with additional remixes from the lights of Liger, Duran Durandom & Yeah Pretty Boy.

“Circles 1.0” is a floating dream of indietronica held in a lo-fi manner and adjutated by the astral vocals to a nicely poised swell.

“Kyoto 0.9” is more upbeat but never too bouncy or over-the-top to become ill-fated. It’s the best Miss Ueki effort on ‘Shake Shake’. The song has a neat French lounge disco atmosphere that’s uplifted by commendable electro experiments with appealing lyrics and vocals.

“Reykjavik 1.0” is a ballad in a sample loop, with semi-tonal vocals and a fine, fragile pop melody.

‘Shake Shake’ is a good debut that knocks doors open for Miss Ueki to march through. AUDIOTIER

Marissa Nadler - Little Hells ( 03/03/2009 )

Enjoy!

Oppressed by the Line
Kiku
2009

"an electronic odyssey that revels in its own misery via an upbeat soundtrack that sounds like a 2020 Vision outtake with an almost Kurt Weill-esque overcoat. Opener 'Fragmented' is the even more downbeat doppelganger to The Field Mice's 'Let's Kiss And Make Up' while 'A Painting Of A Tapestry' is a disturbing electro distress call that is eerily reminiscent of some of the more disparaging moments of Joy Division's Closer opus." The Mary Onettes - Puzzles

I think about it all.
I think about it still.
I think I realize, that it will always break……
It’s just a game we love.
It’s just a game we love.
What a way to live.
It’s not a way to live.

Do I have time to think?
Do I have time to sink?
To make it look alright, I need to bend my soul.
Those things we never did.
Those things we never said.
I’ll be a numb one day.
I’ll be a numb one day.

I’m goin’ out to stay up all night.
Let’s talk about what feels strange on the inside.
Let’s make this year look good tonight.
I know it hasn’t been the best year, so let’s be numb.
Do you feel strange on the inside?

I should be here to grow.
I should be here to know.
That if I make it right, I could be heading home.
That’s not a way to think.
Somebody told me how.
We only learn one way.
Could that be said about us?
Could that be said about us?

I’m goin’ out to stay up all night.
Let’s talk about what feels strange on the inside.
Let’s make this year look good tonight.
I know it hasn’t been the best year, so let’s be numb.
Do you feel strange on the inside?

We should never forget who we are.

I’m goin out to stay up all night.
Let’s make this year look good tonight.

I’m goin’ out to stay up all night.
Let’s talk about what feels strange on the inside.
Let’s make this year look good tonight.
I know it hasn’t been the best year, so let’s be numb.

Do you feel, strange on the inside?
Do you feel, strange on the inside?

.: When Robots Fall in Love :.

"...But while the story is what will keep you interested as the game moves along, the visuals are what will grab you. Machinarium sports an absolutely stunning art style, with completely hand-drawn characters and backgrounds that are packed with detail and personality. The various robots you encounter are all distinct, as are the various different areas, which makes the idea of exploring that much more enticing. And with the smooth character animations, the game looks, moves, and feels like a top-tier animated movie. The same goes for the soundtrack in the game, which features subtle, ambient music and sound effects that feel very organic... the presentation and story make this a game that's hard not to recommend. This is a world that's just begging to be explored, and one of the finest point-and-click adventures in recent memory."

P.S. Peço desculpa de postar um jogo neste blog de verborreia musical, mas vale a pena para desenferrujar a massa cinzenta :)

Magic Wands - Magic Love & Dreams (2009)

Finally, the promised EP by Magic Wands is here – Magic Love & Dreams. I’ve been thirsting to hear more from this love-duo since last year when they enchanted us “Black Magic” and “Teenage Love”. Surprisingly those tracks are two of the four on this EP, which makes me feel a bit cheated. I was expecting all new material, or at least more than just two songs. Sure they’ve been revamped a bit courtesy of producer John Hill, but they’re not very exciting anymore (especially not “Teenage Love”).

I was also hoping that the gorgeous demo of “Kaleidoscope Hearts” would be featured, but that was another disappointment (apparently it’s being released as an 7″ together with “Black Magic” instead).

It’s not all bad though, not at all: the remaining two songs, “Kiss Me Dead” (which has been on their MySpace pretty much since the beginning but now finally in good audio) and “Starships” are indeed quite magical. Shrilling guitars, instant hooks, boy/girl vocals and dark, dark love – what’s not to like about that? Overall Magic Wands almost sound like what New Order producing The Jesus and Mary Chain back in the 80’s might have been like. With some added fairy dust, that is.

Hatifnats - Before it is too late (2009)

freskinhos freskinhos...vindos da Polonia

Sábado, Outubro 17, 2009

The songs on his latest offering, “Don Your Suit of Lights” were written in a woodland farmhouse in the south of France, isolated and tranquil, reflecting the mood of this charming debut solo album. The name, The Mostar Diving Club is taken from a town in Bosnia, where his fathers family hail from; as a right of passage into adulthood, young men dive from an old bridge into a very shallow river below, a distance of some thirty meters, get it wrong and you are in serious trouble. Having made several trips to this part of the world, both before and after the war he has met with the divers and seen them do their stuff.

The Swimmers - People Are Soft (2009)
From the opening track “Shelter” to “A Hundred Hearts”— the insatiably catchy gang vocal about the competing pulls of the human heart—to “Drug Party”—a dream sequence of social disconnection propelled by overblown distorted guitars and brash snare hits—to “What This World Is Coming To”— a diffuse, tender verse that collapses into quirky keyboard lines, handclaps and epic choruses—the sounds begin to form the fractured and sentimental cast of characters that make up this record. The apocalyptic electro-pop of “Give Me the Sun,” “Nervous Wreck’s” triumphant chorus (“sing without and hold together”), and the nostalgic spoken lyric of “Try To Settle In” all converge with the rest of the songs to flesh out the full meaning of the album’s title—in their isolation and comfort, allure and fragility, resignation and transcendence: People Are Soft.
